Massari (money in arabic) is the newest pop/R&B sensation in Canada and soon in the US. His songs carry a clear Arabic melody to them. When I first heard his song (smile for me) I didn't recognize the singers name, but I took a liking to it right away.. Anyway, I support the idea of Arabs to be involved in the today's pop culture. I think it's was to give North American's a new perspective to view Arabs from.. you can see the song and the video at http://www.capitalprophetrecords.com Posted by Hello

Maybe you're right.. It could be a placebo effect. But what I ever I think I heard, it was subtle

He calls himself "money", and has lyrics like "so most in these girls wanna be with me // lady pristine know that i'm a balla, // thousand dolla ballers in the VIP". Hm. I can't seem to load up the official site, so I could be talking out of my butt here, but it doesn't sound very positive.

Don't get me wrong, I want to see Arab culture become more prominent as well, but not if it's just going to be sold as an Arab twist on the prolific African-American hip-hop stereotype: a male who is 1) obsessed with money, (2) disrespectful of women, and (3) a criminal.

(But then I've never been a fan of this style of music, as my favourite music list suggests :-)

It's sad Elendil, but to reach the majority of teens, this sort of music is the best medium. Remember that this music is "cool" and teens have "respect" for such artists.
I do agree with that it's a bad representation of Arab culture, but are teens interested in reading history books, and opening their minds to other cultures? Some may, but the majority don't.

    thanks for your thoughtfull comment

elendil i agree with you but i can agree with omar as well. but the thing i am worried about is that unfortunately, the r&b hip hop stereotypes also means it is usually black people who are succesful in making this kind of music and at rapping. it looks good and sounds good. when non-blacks get into this kind of music, it looks funny at times like they are trying to imitate the greats of this genre, ie snoop dogg, dr. dre, kanya west, etc. the only person who was really able to do this was eminem and maybe a few others.
i just hope de does not come off looking like an imitator. i hope he comes with something unique in his style that he can add to the genre of this kind of music.

life, I see what you mean. Both of the statements are true. It seems as though there's a trade-off between presenting a legitimate, rich, Arab culture, and attracting the youth of the American culture, who are accustomed to something different. Go too much one way, and they won't be interested as Omar says above. Go too much the other way, and you end up with the imitators, and defeat your purpose.

It reminds me a bit of Orphaned Land. They're a death metal band that come from Israel, and they made up this whole mythology of three animals symbolising the warring groups, and the eventual hope for reconciliation. They were always modest, referring to themselves as 'oriental' in acknowledgment that they were a Westernisation of the real thing. It worked well, it was very rich, but some of the stylistic aspects were jarring to Western ears. Although, you can probably get away with being different more with metal than R&B.

in my opinion as a teen in the new millenium i love massari.... his style of music is different then other R&B or pop singers. his new song "Be Easy" is an excellent song! i love it. but i do agree with elendil his songs do talk about money, and sexuality. but that kind of music sells and wat artist doesnt want to make money.

Massari is awesome. i know alot of people that don't like Massari for the fact that some of the media has said that "if Sean Paul and Shawna Desman had a child they'd have Massari" and for that fact most of my friends do not like him. but i adore him. i find his music different then other artist and his voice has a different touch then others. So yeah. Massari keep it up. I'm loving it. (he's also very hot . so that helps :P)
