Violence can only lead to violence

I was on my way to work early in the morning when CBC radio reported the London bombings. At the time no one knew the magnitude of the blasts, how many were killed, or how bad the damage was. London police even reported that the explosions in the subway were due to some electrical problems. By the time I got to work everyone was talking about it, and during the whole day I was reading updates on several news websites.
I think what happened is truly sad and horrific. Any good reputation that Arabs have built over the past few years, is now gone. I think attacking civilians is very cowardly, and achieves no purpose. Attacking anyone in the name of a religion is even worse. It is my view, as well as every Arab that I have talked to since the bombing that the attacks were bad, and inhumane. What’s sad to think about is that there nothing we can do to stop attacks like these. The stub
bornness of both sides, the extremists and the western “coalition”, will only escalate the feud, fueling more hatred in both sides’ hearts. There’s no doubt that the Americans and Israeli’s are committing atrocities against civilians in the Middle East, but this can only be cured with politics. Violence can only lead to violence, let’s be the smart ones here and put an end to this.

Omar, thank you for a post excellently written. I agree with you, violence leads to more violence, and the way to solve the whole terrorism problem is by education, awareness, good and fair politics as well as peace all over the globe.

The two pictures are enough to address western people what sour is the reality. If they morn the 50 people died in the bombings (it is condemnable strongly), what about 50 people dying everyday in Iraq. Let alone people dying everyday in Palestine or in the poor nations, because of economic policies of rich nations.

Eman, welcome back :) thank you very much. I agree that only education and awareness will help us solve the problems.
Sinan and Dina, glad you agree :)
Aleppian thanks for noticing the pictures. I purposely chose those two. And yes it seems as 1 western life is worth more than 1 Arab life.
jawaher, tikrami, just give me a bit of time to give it a bit of thought :)

It is indeed sad, but I disagree with the comparison with Iraqi people who die everyday and the British ones.
The bombs and suicide bombers are killing the iraqis not the soldiers (of course I'm not rejecting the fact that soldiers did kill poeple) but the majority are being killed by their own people or by other people from the neighbor countries. It looks like more of a sectarian conflict than any kind of war.
On the other hand, I agree that violence only brings more violence. Politicians should communicate more and let go of some of their prides and corruptions.

we spent our lives learning in the schools and from the tv that the word "Kifah" against the occupation only includes fighting with weapons!
i don't know why they concentrated only on fighting, i knew later that there was a leegue of mainly advocats and other patriotic people in Syria that fought the occupation in a peacefull way and they made a progress for our independence.

Much of the outrage here in London is that the bombers killed Muslims too. The hugest betrayal is due to the fact that many of the bombers were British.
What's more, of course Western and Eastern lives are equal - but try telling that to the bombers - not my point here. I wanted to say that wholesale killings by an enemy on home soil are a very new phenomenon in the West.
And of course, although it happens every day in the Middle East, I'm not saying it gets easier to bear the tragedy. A mother's tears are the same in Baghdad and the Gaza Strip as they are in London and New York City.

Hello Olivia, welcome to the blog. I agree with you on this new fad of "whosale" killing. I think it's largely due to the fact that these extremists do not belong to an organized militia, and find targeting civilians a way to send their message across.
You know, it still boggles my mind how somebody can be so cold hearted.
If more of these terrorists heard what westerners, just like you, say about the Middle East, then perhaps we can change a few minds. I think the media is to blame here.
