It's all in Self Defense People!

A "militant strong hold" as they would have you believe

I haven’t written about Gaza because I don’t think my words can do justice. How do you translate into words the feeling that you have when you see the limp bodies of children being rushed to emergency vehicles? Or when you see young boys digging through the rubble of a destroyed residential building, looking for survivors? Or when witnessing the sheer agony experienced by the mothers and fathers who lost their dear children?

How do you translate the anger that you feel when you hear UN Secretary General mention the “terrorist rocket attacks” before mentioning the “disproportionate” response by the Israelis?

What is happening in Gaza today is far from a Holocaust. The Holocaust happened under different circumstances, and different times. Gaza today is experiencing a Modern Holocaust. Where innocent civilians are being killed while the world watches in silence; where the UN justifies the action of an army under the banner of “self defense.” Self defense against whom? Palestinians who don’t even have clean drinking water?

To examine who truly needs self defense we need to only look at the numbers of the few days. The timeline is shown in a BBC article:

Saturday:

At least 52 Palestinians and two Israeli soldiers killed

Friday:

Ashkelon activates warning system after rocket hits

Thursday:

Four Palestinian children and seven militants killed

Wednesday:

Six-month-old Palestinian boy and six militants killed

Israeli civilian killed in Sderot

The BBC article is now outdated. The latest numbers from Aljazeera show 102 deaths from the Palestinian side of them 39 children.

As I write this Israel continues to launch attacks against civilians in Gaza. Meanwhile the IOF is launching an assault on Hebron in the West Bank, fully knowing that the media is too busy covering its crimes in Gaza. The results of the attack on Hebron so far are the death of 13 year old girl, and the injuring of seventy.

I ask you take a moment to step back and examine what is happening, because I truly think we’re becoming desensitized to hearing of Palestinian deaths. No matter what side you’re on when you look back on what’s happening, the human in you should tell you one thing. What’s happening right now isn’t a political dilemma. It’s a Moral dilemma.

Your comment is hysterical, and if there's any twisting in the truth your comment has it all. Israel starves Gazans for months and you expect them to sit there and ask for more? Israel is obligated to give Palestinians their rights, and all forms of resistance are the answer to Israel's violation of international laws, and the ongoing occupation of the West Bank. Resistance is not terrorism.

As for the media bias... what channels do you watch? I'm really curious. There were over a hundred civilians killed within 24 hours and what did the media have to say? NOTHING. Check this for proof..

And since when where Palestinian bombing Israel daily? One thing that's happening daily is the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, and until very recently Gaza. And it has been happening daily since 1967. It is very sad that educated people don't dig deeper for the truth. Instead they go on repeating what the media tells them. I think it's about time you stop playing the antisemitism card. Standing up for human rights is the right thing to do, and when you're own government is threatening of a Holocaust in Gaza, it really shows who the true antisemites are.

While it is a tragegy, and Israel's actions are truly reprehensible. In fact beyond my words or comprehension, I have to ask why there is always this hijacking of words.

A modern holocaust? You don't think thats a bit over the top?

What would you have called Rwanda then for example, or Bosnia, or Darfur.

One more point. Hamas, who are defending the city, are the ones who prompted the attack (not that it in any way defends Israel's appalling reaction)

I was glad to see Nader mention Palestine in a speech and what is going on in Gaza and the West Bank.

It was an Israeli who called what is going on in Gaza a Holocaust.

If someone invaded and attempted to occupy my country I would do what ever I needed to do to attack the invaders/occupiers.

One persons Terrorist is another's Freedom Fighter.

If supporting Palestinians in Gaza makes me a terrorist lover or whatever, I guess that is what I am

What happens is that the world mouths along with the Palestinians because everyone fears they'll be a victim of Palestinian terrorism otherwise, but in private they acknowledge Israel is in the right and should crush Gaza until the Palestinians learn to behave responsibly and in accordance with international law.

I know this flips you out, yet this is the sort of dichotomy that is created in a world where politicians fear getting shot for voicing the wrong ideas. Terrorism serves the Palestinians very poorly, and frustrates them via the resulting mis-education: you think Israel is in the wrong and people agree with you in public, but it's all a facade and they think otherwise in private.

    Why?
I know nothing about what's going on....but I know that innocent civilians should not be involved....so easy for me to say....

    Omar,

I feel the same way. Sometimes, I feel my words won't do justice to the actually bloody Israeli war machines. And to Anonymous no.1, what is your description of a Semite? This whole ordeal of "anti-Semitism" has been blown out of proportion.

I have to agree with Ted. I am sick and tired of hearing how poor old Israel is suffering when the truth is that it is Palestine that is being eliminated and made to suffer.

By the way I have moved my blog to a new link and gave it a new name.

What the hell is going on with these people who STILL don't understand the REAL picture, what's REALLY going on?? Alone the fact that an ISRAELI POLITICIAN called their actions in Gaza a holocaust, pretty much says it all, no additions needed!

I am in talking once in a while to Mohammad Omer as well as a wonderful young woman who runs a preschool in Gaza and can assure you, what they tell makes everyones hair stand up! I know there is at least ONE who will anwer "Yea - a preschool where hatred is taught" - upfront already: spare me the nonsense!! NO - what she teaches every mom and dad EVERYWHERE would like their kids to be taught ... it is commonly called VALUES!! Just for the records ... the teacher's own family was killed AND her home bulldozed - but she did NOT resort to hatred.

What's going on in Gaza on a daily, almost hourly basis is GENOCIDE and must be condemned!!

Whoever doesn't think so - imagine yourself occupied, humiliated, oppressed, your children deprived of whats their right - a normal childhood (without 24/7 fear and terror!) AND education, terrorized, your brothers in jail or killed, your parents sick without any hope to get help ... picture yourself in this
nightmare .... and ALL because you want to be FREE and get what is YOURS!!!

Having said all that - I highly respect President Carter's decision to go to Damascus and talk with Khaled Mashal ... if ANYTHING will bring about ANY change for the better, dialogue will, NOT violence - and in THIS case, Khaled Mashal is the man to talk to, if others like it or not!!
