Translation for non-Arabic speakers:

The image shows the current RSS feed from Aljazeera.net

the first item translates:
Work is underway in Annapolis, Bush considers Annapolis as the ideal time for negotiations

The second item:
Six martyrs in an Israeli raid on Gaza

I guess Palestinians living in Gaza are excluded from the negotiations underway.

    Double standards, typical.

This is a common Israeli tactic, they blow up one issue in the media to divert attention from what they're doing somewhere else. Like during the war on Lebanon, they were also bombing Gaza and Nablus, yet no one really paid attention.

Israel and Bush don't really want peace.

The only reason they are there is to make the world think they are trying.

I second both queenie and ted. I don't see why there is so much faith placed into this Annapolis thing. Our stupid governments propagate such faith through the media. I wonder if they're aware of its uselesness or they actually buy into it.

    thanks for the comments guys..

Olmert today talked about a two-state solution being the only way to save Israel from what happened in South Africa.
It's true that a one state would be the end of Israel as we know it today, that is, a "Jewish state". But how is having two states going to solve the problem? What's going to happen to Israeli-Arabs? How is Israel going to be a pure Jewish state with a Muslim and Christian population? Is the Palestinian state going to be a real state, with an army, control over its shores and sky? Will all 1948 refugees be given Palestinian citizenship?
These are some of the tough issues that have stalled the peace process for years. I don't believe that Israel is willing to give such concessions just yet, but they want a quick solution to the "demographic time bomb"

Also, what's wrong with a one state solution? Jews will still have a home and all the issues mentioned above would disappear. I see South Africa as a good model to follow, not a bad example as Olmert refers to it.

Or follow the example of any democratic country that isn't founded on religious or racial principles?

May I suggest Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Finland, Germany, France, Holland, etc..

All of which are different but equally good role models as far as democracy goes. And are all heavily muli-cultural nowadays.

I totally agree Outsider. I think the Palestinians took a HUGE step when they recognized Israel. They came to reality and dealt with the situation on the ground. There's nothing wrong with a multinational, multi-race country. The countries you mentioned are perfect proof of that.
